The seven players definitely leaving the Ospreys as coach also departs

Three internationals are among seven players leaving the Ospreys at the end of the season.

Scott Baldwin, Rob McCusker and Giorgi Nemsadze head the list of those who are moving on, with Baldwin departing a decade and 165 games after making his debut.

Defence coach Brad Davis is also exiting, with the Australian set to join newly promoted London Irish in the Gallagher Premiership.

Also heading for the exit door are Tom Habberfield, Alex Jeffries, James Ratti and Joe Thomas.

The Ospreys may yet have one game left to play this term if their Champions Cup qualification playoff against the Scarlets is confirmed.

Baldwin, Wales' first-choice hooker at the last World Cup, would be expected to feature in that, ahead of a move to Harlequins, while McCusker exits after three seasons.

The true extent of the chaos that's engulfed a Welsh rugby club and the hero who emerged

Georgian back-five man Nemsadze didn’t trouble the scorers much during his time with the Ospreys, making just five appearances.

Like Baldwin, Habberfield is an Ospreys centurion, playing 135 times for the region.

The heart-and-soul Bridgend product is popular at the Liberty, but the Ospreys have four other scrum-halves and something had to give.

Wales international Aled Davies is on their roster, along with talented trio Matthew Aubrey, Harri Morgan and Rueben Morgan-Williams.

But Habberfield's grit and willingness to put the team first — he played a number of games on the wing — will ensure he is fondly remembered.

Ratti also finds himself crowded out, in his case by the number of promising young locks emerging, while Jeffries has been linked with the Scarlets and Thomas is already in New Zealand playing club rugby for Otorohanga.

The out-of-contract Davis leaves the coaching team after three seasons.

One of the highlights of his time in Swansea was the 27-0 win over Pau earlier this season, when the Ospreys closed down the French club at every turn. In their 16-year history the region have achieved only six shut-outs, with three of them on Davis’ watch.

The Ospreys announced the departures at their annual dinner on Friday evening.

Paul James, who finished as a player in December, was presented with a framed shirt to commemorate his 232 appearances for the region.

Managing director Andrew Millward said: “On behalf of everybody at the Ospreys, I’d like to thank each one of these individuals for their service and hard work while at the region.

“As we all know, this time of year traditionally sees confirmation of player and staff movement across the rugby world and we are no different. All of those leaving have contributed positively to our environment during their time with us, on and off the field, and no doubt will continue to do as we prepare for a Champions Cup play-off against the Scarlets later this month.

The 15 players definitely leaving Cardiff Blues this summer and the one they're fighting to keep

“In particular, we should acknowledge two players, Scott Baldwin and Tom Habberfield, who have been with us since they were teenagers, both representing their home region with distinction on more than 100 occasions.

“We wish all those who are leaving the very best for their futures wherever they go.”

The Ospreys are still in talks with a number of players about their futures, with Alun Wyn Jones, Nicky Smith, Sam Davies and Luke Price among those whose positions have yet to be settled.

Meantime, Olly Cracknell was the big winner at the awards evening.

The back rower walked off with two prizes after being named coaches and players’ player of the season.

Dan Evans claimed the supporters’ award, repeating a feat he pulled off in 2015, while a new accolade saw Keelan Giles’ length-of-the-field touchdown against Worcester Warriors in January crowned Worthington’s try of the season.
