Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho has opened up on Juan Foyth's chances of playing as a right-back.
Following the departure of Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window, coupled with the Lilywhites' decision not to sign a replacement has left a spot open in the team.
Serge Aurier is the first-choice for the position at the moment, while Kyle Walker-Peters got his chance to impress during the 3-1 defeat against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.
One potential solution is Foyth.
He did operate there for Argentine at the Copa America in the summer and it could be his best chance of nailing down a regular place in the team - at least while Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are still at the club.
The idea was put to Mourinho on Friday afternoon as he looked ahead to Spurs' trip to Wolves this weekend.
And the Portuguese tactician didn't sound sold on the proposal just yet as he explained the difference between Aurier and Foyth when it comes to the position.
"Depends on the right-back and depends on what you want from a right-back," Mourinho said during his pre-Wolves press conference .
"If you want a right-back to play like Aurier is playing, of course not because he can't play the way he plays as Aurier plays as a winger.
"If you want to play with a right-back more closed inside, more positional and more cautious to give a better balance to the team defensively, I think he can as he's intelligent and he uses the ball well.
"He's not obviously a player with the qualities to progress on the flank and to get into scoring positions and crossing positions like Serge is doing."
