The secret to Phil Foden's rise to prominence revealed by England teammate

Phil Foden has been told he has the footballing world at his feet by England teammate James Ward-Prowse.

Foden was central to everything England did in the 5-0 win over Andorra, slicing them apart with a combination of short and long balls from deep and playing a crucial role in Ben Chilwell's opening goal as well as setting up Bukayo Saka for a finish.

Gareth Southgate used Foden in a slightly different role to the wide-forward duties he has at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, but looked comfortable in the middle of the park during the World Cup qualifier last week.

Ward-Prowse hailed his contribution to the game and said that Foden will go a “long, long way in the game.”

“I thought he was brilliant,” Ward-Prose said via the Southern Daily Echo.

“It was probably one of the first times I’ve played in a game with him. He’s brilliant to have on your team.

“He wants the ball all the time, You can see his natural ability with the ball. He made a few wonderful passes with his left foot, dinking it over the defensive line of Andorra.

“You can see he has an abundance of quality. He has a good head on his shoulders as well. He is going to go a long, long way in the game for sure.”

Foden missed the Euro 2020 final due to injury but is considered to be an integral player at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar for the Three Lions.
