The multi-award winning stage version of Kate Grenville’s novel The Secret River, adapted by Neil Armfield and Andrew Bovell, returns to the Sydney stage. The story, based on Grenville’s ancestors who settled in the Hawkesbury region, was first staged in 2013 and was made into an ABC television drama in 2015.
The story explores the conflict between William Thornhill, a convict brought to Australia for theft in London’s slums, and the Dharug people on whose land he tries to settle. With brutality and honesty, it tells of a crucial turning point in Australia’s history. Nathanial Dean and Trevor Jamieson return for a limited season, joined by Shaka Cook, Nigali Lawford-Wolf, Madeleine Madden, Colin Moody and more.
