The secret bar hiding behind this Manchester laundrette

Secret bars were all the rage a few years ago, and there are a fair number of them still pouring drinks here in Manchester.

These hidden gems are mysterious, and trying to find them in the first place is half the fun.

One legendary bar that still draws a steady crowd is The Washhouse, just a stone’s throw from the Arndale.

If you were just passing by, you’d probably just think it was a launderette - it really does look like one, with washing machines lining the walls of the small entrance.

It’s even had some people so confused that they’ve turned up with washing .

But there's no dirty laundry to wash at this unique venue - it's actually one of the city's best cocktail bars.

Pass through a door disguised as a washing machine and you'll find a bookings-only, exclusive hidden gem.

The owners have gone all out to create an air of mystery around their popular drinking spot.

The bar’s Facebook page states: "First rule of The Washhouse... You don't talk about The Washhouse. Bookings only.. Get your detective hat on, Track our website down and book In online instantly."

What’s on the menu?

For those hoping for a glimpse of the menu before you arrive - tough.

The website has been kept pretty illusive due to its secret nature, but you can get a taste of what's in store on their social media.

Some of the cocktails include their take on a pisco sour with orange, sage and cardamom; a 'pea super' mojito with pea puree, coconut water, coriander and mezcal; and the suffragette city with tequila, grapefruit and lime.

If you do pay a visit to the site, you'll notice they state: "We don’t cater for all of your laundry needs and more. Our friendly staff won’t take care of your washing and its probably best not to let them loose near a washing machine.

"But, whether you are a local resident or a student, or passing by Manchester, drop in and give us a spin."
