The secluded Art Deco hotel with Great Gatsby theme you can only visit at low tide

A private island off the south coast has previously been the second home of famous faces - and it has an incredible 1930s inspired accommodation.

Agatha Christie and Noel Coward have both famously stayed on the island, 2Chill reports, and it’s easy to see why they loved it so much.

Burgh Island Hotel sits across from the small seaside village of Bigbury-on-Sea, Devon, and pays homage to all things 1930s and European Art Deco.

The Grade II listed hotel is so secluded, there are only three private houses and a pub alongside it, and it’s only accessible at low tide via a strip of sand.

The island itself is a natural beauty and is quite the landmark situated directly across from the small seaside village of Bigbury-on-Sea, Devon.

Burgh Island Hotel is something of a treasure that has been painstakingly restored to its original decadent glamour over this past year.

Built in 1929, the hotel has always been a draw for those attracted to the unique island experience and feeling like you’ve stepped back in time as soon as you embark on your voyage across the waves to reach the quirky destination.

While the landscape of the 26-acre island changes with the tides, the 30s opulence has remained a constant and prominent focus within the hotel, something which is reflected in the rule of no TVs in the bedrooms as this allows you to be entirely present whilst soaking up the setting.

You’ll want to pack your finest smoking jacket as you’ll discover live music in the grand ballroom twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

If getting some laps in before lunch is more your thing, you’ll be greeted by the mermaid pool, offering you natural sea water swimming experience and sunbathing opportunities in a private cove.

Enjoy a spot of croquet or a match of tennis or two on the lawn at the front of the hotel, framed by the hard to beat sea views. Alternatively, if you’re looking for a complete reset and a little pamper along the way, there is of course a sauna and a spa treatment room.

The 25 bedrooms, suites and the beach house, which was Agatha Christie’s writing spot give you a plethora of options when it comes to resting your head.

A quintessentially English affair, Burgh Island Hotel is often regarded as one of the most prominent places to experience the Art Deco theme in Europe, a place where opulence meets decadence.

Embrace your inner Jay Gatsby and revel in the style and grandeur of the hotel which is steeped in history.
