The Scouse alphabet: Learn your Ey B Cs the Liverpool way

Scousers are known for many things - including their wit, fashion and generosity - but perhaps the most immediately recognisable is the city's distinctive accent.

And with that accent comes a language all of its own.

If you're not from Liverpool, there will be many words you might catch on our streets which you've probably never heard before.

In fact, there are so many they fill a full alphabet.

Here is our Scouse version of your 'Ey, B C's' which will prove exactly what we mean...

A - Antwacky

Old fashioned - of a kind that is no longer in style

Use: 'Our kid's clobber is proper antwacky.'

B - Bevvy

An alcoholic drink

Chewing gum

Use: 'Giz a chewie'

An insult which usually refers to someone having done something stupid/silly.

Use: 'As if you've done that you divvy'

Serious/bad news

Awesome/good news

Use: 'My goldfish died today, John'

Use: 'I am rough, last night was heavy'.

Correct or deserved 

Use: 'I heard about your promotion -is right, lad'

J - Jarg

Fake

Use: 'That trackie is jarg'
