The Scottish seaside holiday home that comes with its own bookshop

With spring just around the corner, it's time to start thinking how to make the most of the longer days and less wintery weather.

The are countless picturesque cities, towns, and villages all over Scotland that would make for an amazing holiday. However, if you're looking for something a little different, a one-of-a-kind holiday home in Galloway could be perfect.

Located in the small seaside town of Wigtown in the southwest of Scotland is The Open Book. The charming bookshop is a favourite among locals, situated on the main street of the town.

The Open Book is one of many bookshops in Wigtown, which in 1998 was officially designated "Scotland's National Book Town". There is also an annual book festival that includes over 200 events and activities for all ages comprising music, theatre, food, and visual arts.

What makes The Open Book truly unique is as well as being a bookshop, it is also a holiday rental. Located above the store is a self-catered apartment that sleeps up to two guests.

The flat comes with a double bed and a single bed, and features amenities such as WiFi and a laptop. It includes a living room, a kitchen, and a bedroom.

Book-lovers who stay in the apartment can live out their dreams and run their own bookstore, as they will be able to manage The Open Book during the length of their stay. According to the Wigtown Book Festival website, guests can "change displays, price books, re-categorise them, and make inventive use of the blackboard that entices visitors in to browse or chat".

Whether you want to host events such as readings, or would rather relax and spend your time browsing the shelves, you are free to run the shop however you see fit. There are a team of volunteers to help with the day-to-day running of the store and answer any questions.

The listing on Airbnb states: "Please note that this is not a volunteer opportunity, nor are we paying you to work. This is a holiday that you are paying for, classified under cultural tourism and you can enjoy the bookshop as you wish."
