The Scottish prison menus for the festive season enjoyed by convicts behind bars

Scottish prisoners up and down the country have enjoyed a host of festive treats behind bars this festive season.

Roast turkey, BBQ pork rib steak, chicken balmoral, roast ham and chicken wrapped in bacon were among the treats being served up to Scotland's criminals on Christmas Day, reports the Daily Record.

Irn-Bru, mince pies, chocolate gateau, Christmas puddings and chocolate chip brownies and custard will also be given to lags spending the festive period behind bars.

Cons serving time for serious offences such as murder, rape and drug dealing will be treated to special Christmas Day menus in the country's prisons. Those in Glasgow's Barlinnie Prison will be able to choose between rolls and sausage, vegetarian sausages or Weetabix for breakfast, and roast turkey or veggie Kiev for lunch.

The turkey comes with pigs in blankets, sage and onion stuffing, sweet cranberry gravy, roast potatoes, brussel sprouts and julienne carrots, while the kiev comes with roasters, sprouts, julienne carrots and Christmas Pudding with a Creamy Rum Sauce.

For dinner, they have the choice of BBQ Pork Rib steak in a hot dog roll, with mayonnaise and cheese, or a vegetable quarter pounder, in a floured roll, also with mayo and cheese, and a cup a soup and bread. Their extras include a festive bakewell tart, tangerines, sweet mince pies and Irn-Bru.

The Halal option at the prison includes a beef curry with special basmati rice and naan bread for lunch, and a halal beef burger with mayo and cheese for dinner.

Those within HMP Low Moss, near Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, will get bacon rolls and sauce, and orange juice, for lunch, and have a choice for dinner. The dinner options are tomato soup, followed by turkey and roast ham with onion gravy, stuffing, mini chipolatas, gratin potatoes and a selection of vegetables, or a brie and beetroot tart.

Mince pies and individual trifles are available for dessert. Polmont Young Offenders' Institute, where younger criminals are held, is serving up a cooked breakfast as a Christmas brunch, featuring lorne sausage, black pudding, tattie scones, beans and scrambled egg.

Another breakfast choice is an omelette alongside tomatoes, cumberland veggie sausages, hash browns and boiled eggs. For their main meal of the day, they get winter lentil soup and can choose between roast turkey with trimmings, baby roasters, baby carrots and gravy, or a cauliflower veggie parcel with baby roasters.

For dessert, there's chocolate gateau and cream, bottles of Irn-Bru and selection packs.

In Dumfries, it's rolls and sausage with tomato or brown sauce for breakfast and roast turkey for lunch. The turkey is served with gravy, creamed and roast potatoes, carrots, brussel sprouts, stuffing and pork sausages, with a homemade Christmas trifle to finish. And for dinner, they will get ham or cheese rolls, crisps, juice and a cup of soup, followed by a mince pie.

The Halal lunch option for Dumfries' prisoners is chicken breast with gravy. The high-security HMP Grampian, near Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, is offering soup and fruit, lorne sausage rolls or quorn sausage rolls for lunch.

For dinner at the jail, where a number of the country's sex offenders see out their sentences, they can choose between roast chicken breast with trimmings and veggie wellington slice. And for their sweet, it's chocolate and orange gateau or cream and fruit with a snack pack.The vegan option is soup and fruit with meat free hot dogs or veggie nuggets for lunch, and quorn roast or veggie wellington slice for dinner. HM Prison Inverness, also known as Porterfield Prison is offerint cereal and pan au chocolat for breakfast and a cooked breakfast for brunch.

The breakfast brunch consists of sausage, bacon, egg, beans, hash brown and a roll, or they can choose veggie sausages, egg, beans and hash browns. For dinner, it's chicken balmoral or veggie wellington, both with roasters, carrots, sprouts, yorkshire puddings and gravy.

And the dessert is a Christmas pudding with cream and a selection box. Perth Prison is offering cereal or rolls and jam for breakfast, soup and a roll with sausages, black pudding, tattie scones and beans or veggie sausages, veggie haggis, tattie scones and beans for lunch.

And dinner is a choice between chicken fillet wrapped in bacon with gravy, or cheese and red onion quiche, both with roasters, carrots and sprouts. Dessert is a chocolate chip brownie and custard or fruit with a snack pack.
