The Scottish park with stunning views named one of the best in the UK for a picnic

A Scottish park with incredible views has just been named one of the best for a picnic in the UK. Queen's Park in Glasgow 's southside ranked among the top 10 in the study as part of the National Picnic Month celebrations.

Luxury hamper specialists Cartwright & Butler analysed over 4,000 parks nationwide to unveil the ultimate parks for an alfresco meal this summer.

To do this, they looked at UK parks with a minimum 4* rating in the Top 100 most populated towns and cities in the UK. They then used data to determine which has the most facilities within walking distance, followed by park rating, and average toilet rating.

And Queen’s Park ranked 10th overall due to its popularity and abundance of amenities.

For Southsiders, it'll come as no surprise that the park has been rated so highly, with the greenspace being hugely popular with dog walkers, sunbathers, fans of its sports facilities and people who love to feed the ducks and swans in its boating ponds.

The park has epic views from its flag pole out over the city of Glasgow stretching all the way to Ben Lomond in the distance and has plenty of places on streets such as the surrounding Victoria Road and Kilmarnock Road to grab coffees, a bite to eat or even a pint or two.

In wintertime, people have been known to skate on the main pond, while sledging is a fun activity on the slopes at the Victoria Road end.

Over summer, the bandstand is given over to a season of activities with live performances, bands and movie showings, with toilets and a bar being set up for people to enjoy.

Created in the Victorian era, the park was originally built as the city's third greenspace, designed by famed architect Sir Joseph Paxton and was dedicated to the memory of Mary, Queen of Scots, who lost a battle at Langside near the park.
