The Scottish Government bailout cash lower league clubs will get as emergency lifeline on the way

Christmas has come early for desperate lower league clubs after being handed a festive lifeline of up to £500,000 with their emergency bailout cash set to drop in their banks.

Record Sport revealed earlier this week how Championship sides were in such dire financial straits that they were struggling to cover December’s payroll.

But they were given a huge boost on Friday night after the SFA informed them that the Scottish Government ’s £55m coronavirus rescue package for sport is on its way.

And the governing body will now start writing £500,000 cheques for each Championship club, £150,000 for League One and £100,000 for League Two.

Earlier this month the Scottish Government announced a £55million funding package with £30million of that going to Scottish football.

A total of £20million of that was made available in "low-interest" loans for Scottish Premiership clubs with the remaining £10million in the form of grants for all tiers below the top flight, including the women’s game.
