The Scottish Government announces no deaths and 695 covid cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has confirmed that no people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours with 695 new cases identified overnight.

It means the death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – remains the same at 7,677.

There are currently 121 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 12 being treated in intensive care.

The total number of positive cases since the pandemic hit stands at 241,864.

To date 3,403,866 people have received their first vaccination with 2,282,203 having a second jab.

It comes as Scots scrambled to get home from Portugal before the country moved to the amber travel list.

Holidaymakers told of chaotic scenes at Faro Airport after thirty-nine flights were scheduled to depart in the Algarve for the UK on Monday, nearly twice as many as are scheduled on a normal day.

Travellers had to arrive in the UK before 4am on Tuesday.

Those who didn't will now be required to self-isolate at home for 10 days due to a government decision to remove Portugal from its Covid green travel list.

Tourists hoping to beat the deadline were hit by a combination of flights being sold out, and the handful of available seats being sold at inflated prices.
