Players across the SPFL are seeking legal advice over a contract clause they fear could lead to clubs suspending their wages during the coronavirus lockdown.
With Scottish football postponed until further notice - in line with all the major leagues across Europe - players have been alarmed by a line in standard contracts which suggests wages could be stopped during the shutdown.
At present there is no indication of when play will resume although UEFA hope all domestic leagues can be concluded by the end of June.
The contract clause states: “In the event of the Scottish FA deciding that the game shall be suspended, either entirely or in any district or district as provided for in the articles of association of the Scottish FA, this agreement shall be correspondingly suspended, unless the club is exempted from such suspension or the club otherwise determines.”
A number of players from across the four divisions have now contacted PFA Scotland for clarification of the clause. Legal advice has also been sought.
Hearts players were this week hit with a 50 per cent cut in wages as the Tynecastle club became the first Scottish side to buckle under the stress of the COVID-19 crisis.
Should they refuse the drop in wages then the Tynecastle club is willing to terminate the deals.
Meanwhile Ross County owner Roy MacGregor has written to Staggies players to assure them there will be no cuts to their salaries during the shutdown.
An email was sent to the Dingwall playing squad on Thursday assuring them they will be paid in full through the crisis.
