Martin Compston - Vigil - Drama Series

The 2021 drama series Vigil, featuring Scottish actor Martin Compston, is up for Best Drama Series at the BAFTA TV Awards 2022.

In the show's synopsis, it reads: "When a crew member is found dead aboard the Trident nuclear submarine HMS Vigil, the Scottish police begin an inquiry.

"The Vigil must remain on patrol in order to maintain the UK's nuclear deterrent, so Detective Amy Silva is forced to join the crew on board to conduct her investigation.

"Meanwhile, Detective Kirsten Longacre follows leads back on land. As the two pursue parallel trails, the case grows more sinister and broadens to include the highest levels of government and the British Navy."

Martin was the deceased crew member found at the beginning of the series, and despite his lack of coverage on the show, it is exciting to see that the esteemed actor is in a show up for another award.

James McAvoy - Together - Single Drama

Well-loved actor James McAvoy, made golden for his performance in Split, is in a programme in the Single Drama category, the 2021 single series Together.

Released in June of 2021, James McAvoy plays a self-employed, self-made man who runs a boutique computing consultancy, only referred to as 'He'.

The synopsis reads: "A couple are forced to re-evaluate themselves and their relationship through the reality of lockdown.

"She is a charity worker, a coordinator for all of Europe at a refugee charity.

"She's the daughter of a dentist father and an `old socialist' mother and the only grandparent still around. He, meanwhile, is a self-employed, self-made man who runs a boutique computing consultancy."

Although not aptly named in the nomination, RuPaul's Drag Race UK Season Two winner Lawrence Chaney is part of the cast nominated for Best Reality and Constructed Factual category.

Winner of the second series, that is now nominated, Lawrence will be included as a BAFTA TV winner should the reality drag series succeed at the awards on Sunday evening.

The show was also nominated back in 2020, but sadly lost out to Race Across The World in the end.

Could they nab the award this year? We will wait with baited breath to find out.

You can tune into the BAFTA Television Awards 2022 on Sunday, May 8 at 7pm on BBC One.
