The schools that are closed in Wales today because of the snow

Snow has closed a number of schools in Wales on Tuesday (January 17) as temperatures dropped to -6C overnight. Some schools in Conwy and Denbighshire have closed for "health and safety" reasons because of the adverse weather conditions.

There is a yellow weather warning for snow and ice in parts of north Wales that runs until lunchtime on Tuesday, and temperatures are expected to remain cold for the rest of the week with more snow on the way. Live updates on the weather here.

Al schools in Powys will be open today, but there are some school closures.

The schools in Conwy:

Primary

  • Ysgol Bro Aled
  • Ysgol Pen y Bryn

  • Ysgol Talhaiarn

Secondary

  • Ysgol Bryn Elian

The Met Office forecast for Tuesday in Wales says: "A cold and frosty start. Then a mix of sunny spells and wintry showers, with snow flurries likely at times, mainly across northern parts of Wales and near coastal regions. Light winds to start but freshening later. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

"Another cold night to come with a scattering of wintry showers, these turning to snow at times. A widespread frost developing, with some icy patches possible. Minimum temperature -5 °C."
