The schools are back and that means busier traffic around Edinburgh – the worst affected routes

For many people today represents the first day back at school or work – and for some parents a return to normality.

However for others the schools going back means busier roads, and a longer commute in the morning.

Council-run social media account Edinburgh Travel News got in there early to warn people to expect some delays as pupils and teachers are reunited across Edinburgh.

We received reports that the A6106 Duddingston Park was busy between Milton Road and Niddrie Mains Road, and the A902 Ferry Road at Goldenacre Playing Fields were particularly busy before 8am.

Queensferry Road traffic is said to be slow eastbound at the Barnton Junction while Maybury Road and Sir Harry Lauder Road are also reported to be queued.

Things are also, of course, looking slightly busier on all the usual routes. The M8 at junction two is slow as is the stretch between junction four Whitburn and junction three Livingston.

The A7 northbound on approach to Sheriffhall is queued along with the Edinburgh City Bypass in parts – particularly around Gilmerton.

And there's nothing out of the ordinary here but the M9 at Newbridge and the M90 southbound at the Queensferry Crossing look busy with rush hour on the horizon.

The City of Edinburgh Council say that term-time resumes on Wednesday 15 August with mid-term holidays on 17 September and from 15 to 22 October.

The term ends on Friday 21 December.
