The school that's the kindest in Scotland

It’s times like these, with happiness in short supply, that focus the mind on random acts of kindness.

Look no further than Lochfield Primary, in Paisley, which on Monday became the first school in Scotland for EIGHT YEARS to become a Kind School of the Year.

It’s the pair of Primary 5 classes at Quarry Road that are the powerhouse behind the accolade.

Their drive has turned the entire school into a haven of kindness.

Kids start and end the day with a positive message, hold doors open for people, give unexpected compliments and even feed the birds in the playground.

Their dedication won the highest Kind School of the Year” award from the Kindness UK organisation.

Primary 5A teacher Robyn Clark said: “To be the kindest school in Scotland is amazing and all Primary 5 children are over the moon with this achievement, as are myself and Miss Neely of 5B.”

The school has appointed Kind Captains who are tasked with spotting random acts of kindess.

Miss Clark added: “The captains present certificates to children and staff members for their kind actions.

“Additionally, they write about these kind actions and add this to their Kindness Tree.

“This is the first school to win this award in Scotland in the past eight years and I think it is a massive achievement.

“This is something they take great pride in and they will continue to implement the theme of kindness around the school.”

Monday was World Kindness Day and teachers chose the moment to let Lochfield pupils know they’d won.

Primary 5 have participated in other activities including writing letters to other pupils and staff members and challenging them to carry out random acts of kindness.

Examples have included talking to someone different, standing up and telling a joke or story, helping around the house and trying to make a random classmate smile.

As the award’s mantra says: “In a World Where You Can Be Anything – Be Kind!”
