The results are in, and it’s conclusive: a “woody” scent is a man’s best friend when it comes to his chances of getting laid.
Some 86% of women taking part in a recent survey flagged the scent as the sexiest fragrance for a man.
On the flip side of things, the most seductive scent a woman can transmit is the smell of flowers, with 85% of men identifying floral as the foremost aphrodisiac when it comes to a woman’s aroma.
But it’s not only the freshness of the forest or the burst of floral fragrance that the other sex finds attractive.

Men
Woody:
Men, take note: if you want to woo a woman, you could do worse than go woody with your scent. Upwards of 85% of women said this was the sexiest smell a man can get, with Dior’s Homme 2020 and Armani’s Acqua di Giò Profondo popular choices in this category.
Aromatic:
For those who prefer a softer touch, never fear: 78% of women - out of over 3,700 surveyed by showerstoyou.co.uk - plumped for aromatic when it comes to the most attractive fragrance a man can wear.
Warm spice:
A classic, this - and, with winter coming, there’s never been a better time to leave the house wearing that most reliable of scents. It got 72% of the votes available, with Cartier’s Pasha de Cartier Parfum among the most popular in this bracket.
Fresh spice:
Not a million miles off cosier cousin warm spice, this scent - with Tom’s Jour Eau de Parfum among its most popular examples - is sure to get a woman’s attention: 64% of women voted fresh spice their favourite.
Citrus:
In at fifth is citrus - a sharp scent that keeps the ladies sweet. Some 57% of women said this zesty special was their favourite, with Rochas’s L’Homme Rochas among its best examples.
Women
Floral:
No surprises here, as floral tops the charts when it comes to the most seductive fragrances a woman can give off. Some 85% of men (out of nearly 4,000 surveyed) ranked it as their favourite scent on a woman. Lancome’s La Vie Est Belle Intensément is among the best floral offerings.
Sweetness:
Sweetness and light, those are the keys to a man’s heart - or the former is anyway, with 81% of men voting it as their favourite smell. Try Mugler’s Angel Eau Croisière 2020 to pull off this scent.
Fruity:
Few things in life beat the smell of fresh fruit - and it seems men agree: 78% said a fruity scent was the sexiest a woman could wear. Mugler’s Angel Nova is a particular crowd pleaser - expect to turn heads with this on.
Vanilla:
The most reliable of all the old reliables, vanilla more than holds its own on this list, with 73% of men voting it their favourite scent. Strains of its creamy goodness can be found in Dolce & Gabbana’s Only One Eau de Parfum Intense.
Citrus:
As it is for men, so it is for women, as citrus rounds off the top five sexiest smells. Some 69% (cheeky) of men voted it their favourite scent. Give Christian Dior’s Miss Dior Rose N'Roses a go.
