The scenes inside a Welsh rugby team's dressing room as choir join celebrations

The champagne in west London has been on ice for a few weeks now.

And on the weekend, corks were finally popping as London Welsh celebrated back-to-back league titles in sealing the London North-West Division Three crown in style.

The players drank in their underwear and sang in the dressing room before being joined by the renowned London Welsh Rugby Club Choir for some incredible Welsh hymn singing.

The Exiles needed just one point from their remaining two games to go up as champions after romping to a record 113-0 victory at relegated Verulamians the previous weekend.

And it was duly delivered in style as Welsh chalked up their 14th straight win in the division with a 53-8 thumping of Cheshunt, at their famous Old Deer Park ground, in front of what was believed to be a record crowd.

Exactly how many people witnessed Welsh landing the title may not be known, as admission was free for the penultimate home league match of the season.

Next Saturday they host Datchworth, who have to settle for runners-up spot in North-West Three, now trailing the champions by 10 points with one game left.

But they too will be promoted to North-West Two next season where they will take on the likes of Hemel Hempstead, Hampstead, Grasshoppers, Chiswick and Hackney.

Welsh, who have lost just one league game this season at Stevenage Town as well as having a 0-0 draw at Old Streetsonians, conceded a third-minute try to Cheshunt.

But Rhys Howells and Elis Staines crossed to give the hosts a lead, they wouldn't relinquish.

Lloyd Davies went over to put Welsh into a 19-8 lead at the break, and the title was sealed when veteran hooker Ben Cullen, playing his last game for the club, fittingly crossed for the bonus point score.

It was then a question of how many more Welsh would score and they obliged with another four touchdowns in the second period.
