'The saviours' - Newcastle United fans go wild as Allan Saint-Maximin training pictures emerge

Newcastle United fans have hailed Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin as the club's potential saviours after pictures of the duo in training emerged.

The pair have both been out injured recently, coinciding with the Magpies' dismal run of form that has seen them plunged into a relegation battle.

Saint-Maximin has been out of action since late February with a knee injury, whilst Wilson has not played since February 6 due to a hamstring injury.

It means the sight of the two in training has given Magpies fans a boost, especially with 10 days to prepare for their next game against Spurs on April 4.

In a statement, the Magpies confirmed that Miguel Almiron was also continuing to build his fitness.

The club said: "There was the welcome sight of Allan Saint-Maximin joining Callum Wilson back on the training pitches.

"Miguel Almiron continues to build up his fitness after returning from injury."

Speaking earlier this week, manager Steve Bruce said the international break has come at a good time to allow players the chance to regain their fitness.

He said: "It comes at a good time in terms of that it gives us time to see where we are with injuries.

"That’s for sure. We’ll see where we are in 10 days time.

"We've got six or seven away. We'll go back to work and get ready for the next challenge."

Bruce also warned about managing expectations of returning players after Almiron was named in the starting XI for the disappointing loss to Brighton.

He said: "We've got to be careful.

"We’ve seen Miggy desperate to play. He’s been missing for five weeks. We knew he was going to blow in the last 20 minutes or so.

"He was desperate to play, the kid, but we knew we had to take him off at some point."
