The Saturday rugby evening headlines as Wales fans breathe sigh of relief over Taulupe Faletau injury fears

Faletau knock 'nothing too serious'

Wales fans can breathe a sigh of relief after initial injury fears for the health of Taulupe Faletau subsided following Bath's nail-biting victory over Leicester Tigers.

The No.8 was substituted after taking a heavy knock in the final moments of a Gallagher Premiership clash which went to the wire with the west country club holding on for a 13-10 home triumph at The Rec.

In a big boost for Wales, Faletau himself and Bath rugby of director Stuart Hooper played down any injury concerns.

Faletau gave a welcome update post-match, saying: "It is nothing too serious and I should be able to report back to Wales next week.

"Maybe I shouldn’t run into two blokes next time," he quipped.

When asked about his general fitness since returning to action a month ago, he added: "I'm perhaps not quite there yet but I'm just enjoying being out on the pitch.

"Going into camp [with Wales] now, I'm delighted to be there."

Hooper added: "'Toby' is fine, he had a couple of bumps and bruises. He was a bit beaten up but he got up and went again.

"He had literally put his body on the line for 80 minutes so he was exhausted.

“It is the measure of the man [that he rejoined the defensive line after taking a knock], he wants to do well for the team.

"Today was brilliant for him, to get out there and get another game under his belt.

"Whether he plays in the Six Nations or not is (Wales head coach) Wayne Pivac's call. He's a quality player though."

Welsh coach officially leaves Cardiff Blues

Jason Strange has formally left Cardiff Blues after being deemed surplus to requirements at the end of last season.

The Blues sacked the former Wales Under-20 head coach as their attack chief last June in the fall-out which followed Wales Six Nations Grand Slam orchestrator’s Gareth Anscombe’s decision to join the Ospreys.

Former outside-half Strange had two years remaining of his contract.

He guided Wales to an under-20 Six Nations Grand Slam in 2016 and they were mugged late-on by New Zealand in their pool match at the World Championship which followed.
