The salary you'll need to buy a home in different parts of Neath Port Talbot

The property market is one part of the economy that seems unfazed by the pandemic as it continues to go from strength to strength.

Figures released by the ONS show that in the year between July 2019 and July 2020 average house prices in Wales increased by more than £12,000 (or 3.6%) to £170,000 – the highest percentage increase across the UK.

Working from home has made first-time buying more tricky than ever with many more people wanting office and garden space for the most reasonable price.

Property website Zoopla has done some of the hard work for you and has worked out how much you need to earn to buy a property in Neath Port Talbot.

The data shows some variation across the county borough with the lowest income needed of £15,000 per year compared to the highest at £26,500.

The variation in house prices is much smaller than in Swansea where salaries required to get on the housing ladder vary from £16,000 to £54,000 around the city.

The average cost of a home in Wales as of January 2021 is £198,300.
