Taoiseach Micheál Martin has indicated people could holiday abroad at the end of July.
However, Mr Martin said the government will not be afraid to intervene and put the breaks on the lockdown reopening should the situation deteriorate quickly.
He said that the government will "take steps, if steps are necessary" should another spike in Covid infections occur throughout May.
But if everything goes well, we could see foreign holidays by the time August rolls around.
And both of the major airlines in Ireland have brought in a number of safety measures in anticipation
Ryanair
Here's what the company say they are doing to protect passengers in the build-up to and during their flight.
"You MUST complete the necessary forms before travel. Face masks/coverings are mandatory in the airport and on board your flight.
"All our aircrafts are professionally cleaned and disinfected on a daily basis which is effective for over 24 hours.

"Our aircraft are fitted with state of the art air filtration systems which operate to hospital standards
"We will have a limited inflight service onboard, consisting of wrapped snacks and drinks and sales will be cashless. Queuing for toilets will not be permitted."
Aer Lingus
Meanwhile, Aer Lingus have also brought in a number of measures to cope with flights during the pandemic.
According to the airline:
Hospital grade disinfectant is used to spray treat all:
- Seat Coverings
- Floors
- Overhead Lockers
Hard surfaces will be deep cleaned daily by hand including:
- Tray Tables
- Arm Rests
- Windows
Air Filtration Technology
The Aer Lingus website claims: "All our Airbus aircraft are fitted with state of the art air filtration technology. These are the same air filters that are used in operating theatres in hospitals.
How effective is it?
"99.97% of airborne particles such as viruses and bacteria are removed.
"Cabin air is replaced every 3 minutes.
"Aircraft air supply is essentially sterile and particle-free."
"It is now mandatory for all passengers to wear a face mask or covering to fly with us unless you cannot do so for medical reasons in which case you must present a medical certificate confirming this.
"Our Cabin Crew will also be wearing face masks for the duration of your flight."
