Kieran Tierney in Arsenal boost but Celtic’s Ryan Christie faces KO over key difference

Arsenal are growing increasingly confident they will have star turn Kieran Tierney back for Saturday's showdown against Manchester City.

But Celtic could come up short in their bid to have Ryan Christie available for their tussle with rivals Rangers.

The pair were forced into a strict 14-day quarantine after being identified as close contacts of Stuart Armstrong after the Southampton man tested positive for Covid-19 before Scotland's clash with Israel.

Celtic voiced their displeasure at the strict guidelines and Record Sport revealed on Thursday the club are pursuing all avenues as they hope for a last-gasp reprieve from the Lothian Health Board.

However, Tierney potentially making a return for Arsenal before the mandated isolation period may not set a precedent for Christie.

The Gunners have been locked in talks with Scottish FA doctor John MacLean and the English authorities as the aim to have their key man back.

Arsenal are arguing that Tierney should be allowed to play because he already tested positive back for the disease back in August and the left-back would therefore have a three-month immunity.

That criterion doesn't apply to Christie but Celtic will continue to argue their case that the 24-year-old should be among their squad for Saturday's showdown against the Ibrox side.

Neil Lennon hasn't had his problems seek with Israel international pair Hatem Elhamed and Nir Bitton's covid diagnosis and Odsonne Edouard a major doubt after his own positive test last week.
