The rules on working from home after lockdown easing on July 19

Guidelines on working from home will change as lockdown is eased on July 19.

The government will no longer instruct people to work from home as restrictions are lifted as the country enters step four of the roadmap out of lockdown.

However, officials are stopping short of encouraging a return to the office, saying it is a decision for employers.

People will have a clear legal right to work from home if they’re not comfortable with mask rules in their workplace.

It's understood the government is not introducing any extra employment rights as part of this change

People working from home on reduced hours were previously supported by the government's Job Retention Scheme which initially allowed the government to pay 80% of an employees wages for hours not worked if business was somehow affected by Covid-19.

Offices that still allowed employees to come in for work had to employ social distancing measures and other Covid restrictions to keep closed spaces as safe as possible.

For more details on how these rules will affect you working from home, check with your employer to see how they will respond to the easing of restrictions on July 19.

The change in Covid restrictions will only affect you if you live in England. It will not affect people working from home in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
