The rules around going to the pub, bars and nightclubs from Monday July 19

With the so-called freedom day approaching, the rules for going to pubs, bars and nightclubs will ease as restrictions are lifted.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid confirmed on Monday afternoon that the country will ease Covid measures from July 19 as part of step four of the government's roadmap out of lockdown.

From that date, a lot of restrictions will be lifted which will see things running back to near-normal.

Here are the changes you need to know about if you are planning a trip to a pub, bar or nightclub from Monday.

Changes to pubs and bars

Capacity limits will be lifted, there will no longer be a 'rule of six' for people looking to book a table for a large party of people.

Social distancing measures will also be removed so you can enjoy being cramped at the bar feigning for the bartender's attention.

People will also no longer be confined to table service only and will be able to go up to the bar to order their drinks.

Face coverings will no longer be mandatory but will still be recommended, especially for small and enclosed areas where the risk of spreading covid-19 is particularly high.

Changes to nightclubs

Nightclubs will officially be allowed to open for business again on Monday to welcome everyone who missed living the nightlife.

Households will be allowed to mix as the two household rule is scrapped.

The rules until Monday

Groups of six, or two households (of any size) are allowed to meet inside, groups of 30 will be allowed to meet outside alongside this.

Wherever alcohol is served, people must be seated when ordering food or drink.

Social distancing is still encouraged at all venues and capacity limits are still in effect- the cap for most indoor events is 1,000 people or 50% of the capacity's venue (whichever is lower).
