Wenger suggests rule change that could help save Ozil’s Arsenal career
Arsene Wenger has suggested the offside rule could be changed to benefit “creative” players.
The former Arsenal manager has bemoaned the way in which football has been “physicalised” in recent years.
And Ozil, who finds himself out of the first team picture under Mikel Arteta, would perhaps benefit from a rule change.
“Football today suffers from a lack of creativity, artists have disappeared. I think a bit so that they don't die,” Wenger said, quoted by So Foot . “Perhaps a slightly more permissive offside law should be enacted to push back the defense again, so that creative players have more room to express themselves.”
Rosicky takes fashion inspiration from former Arsenal boss
Former Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky paid tribute to Arsene Wenger by donning a long puffer jacket during Sparta Prague’s win over Celtic on Thursday night.
Rosicky, who spent ten years at Arsenal as a player, is now the sporting director of the Czech club.
And he was spotted wearing an oversized coat similar to the one Wenger famously wore on the touchline.
“Arsene Wenger inspired me in many ways. Will be rocking his trademark coat,” Rosicky wrote on Instagram .
“3 points against Celtic yesterday the coat will travel with me everywhere from now on.”
Wilshere reveals Wenger’s reaction to smoking incident
Jack Wilshere has revealed how Arsene Wenger responded after discovering that the player had been caught smoking.
The former Arsenal midfielder was pictured with a cigarette outside a nightclub in 2013.
But Wenger was not critical of Wilshere after hearing the news, instead supporting the then 21-year-old.
“I look back now and realise I made mistakes,” Wilshere told the Super 6 podcast . “At the time, I thought they (the media) were picking on me.
“I had support around me, from the manager. Arsene was brilliant like that. I remember the first time I got caught with a cigarette and the media put it in the paper and that didn’t really bother me, because I was confident I was doing well enough in football.
“The one thing that was in my head was ‘oh my god, the boss is going to kill me’. I remember going in the next day, going up to the training pitch and the boss was there.
“He was like ‘don’t worry, when I have a drink I like a cigarette as well!’. I was like ‘oh my god, thank god for that!’. I learnt things and it’s easier now to get caught out because of social media.”
