The ruined Scots castles where I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here could be filmed

I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here will be filmed in the UK for the first time ever - with speculation suggesting that it could be in Scotland.

Bosses behind the popular ITV reality show took the decision to film closer to home due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The show has taken place inside the Australian jungle since 2002 - but current travel restrictions have made it nearly impossible to have the 2020 show there.

An exact location of the show is yet to be confirmed, but it has been previously suggested that it could be filmed in Scotland.

Ant and Dec will present the series live from castle ruins as the celebrities take part in trials to be crowned king or queen.

Here are four locations in Scotland where this year's show could potentially be filmed.

Dunnottar Castle

Dunnottar Castle was an impregnable fortress that has played a prominent role in the history of Scotland through the 18th century Jacobite risings due to its locations.

The ruins of this clifftop structure overlook the North Sea in a location near Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire.

It was once the home of the Earls Marischal, once one of the most powerful families in Scotland.

William Wallace, Mary Queen of Scots and the Marquis of Montrose are just some of the names to grace the castle with their presence of the years.

A star-studded list of celebs could potentially follow in their footsteps.

Urquhart Castle

Urquhart Castle has been witness to some of the most dramatic chapters in Scotland’s history.

It is where St Columba is said to have worked miracles in the 6th century, where acts of chivalry and defiance provided inspiration during the War of Independence and where the MacDonald Lords of the Isles struggled with the Crown for power.

The structure offers stunning views of Loch Ness and is considered to have been the greatest castle in the Highlands.

Could it be the ideal location to be taking part in some gruelling challenges?

Linlithgow Palace

Linlithgow Palace was the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots and James V.

The ruin of the West Lothian palace was the favoured residence of the Stewart kings and queens from James I onwards.

More recently it has been used as a filming location for the hit TV show Outlander. The ruin has stood in for the prison entrance and corridors in the scene where Jamie is imprisoned.

Could the film crew take inspiration from the folk behind Outlander?

Tantallon Castle

Tantallon Castle is situated on a stunning spot on a cliff edge in East Lothian and was formerly a stronghold of the Douglas family.

William Douglas built the mighty fortress in the mid-1300s and it is considered to be one of the last ‘truly great castles’ erected in Scotland.

It was besieged by both James IV and James V but was ultimately destroyed by Oliver Cromwell’s troops in a siege of 1651.

The towers of the structure in North Berwick give spectacular views of the Bass Rock.
