More associated with opulent pieces, such as the Jeanne Toussant necklace worn by Anne Hathaway in Ocean's 8, Cartier shows its edgy side in Juste un Clou and Écrou de Cartier jewellery inspired by nails, nuts and bolts.
Vanguard visual artist Desi Santiago interpreted this creative twist on everyday objects as an immersive art installation titled ''Precious Garage'', which made its debut at Milan Design Week 2017.
Themed ''When The Ordinary Becomes Precious'', the installation has been on the road and made stops in New York and Sydney before coming to Bangkok, where it is now on display at Siam Paragon's Hall of Fame.
A golden Corvette, without tyres, hovers in the exhibition space. The tyres and other gilded car parts are arranged on a stunning display wall while mechanic's tools against a white background are another element of the installation designed by Santiago, a Puerto Rican based in New York City.
Then known as Desi Monster, he was a member of the Club Kids, who influenced the Big Apple's underground culture in the late 1980s and the 1990s.
New York City is also the birthplace of the nail-inspired Juste un Clou jewellery created for Cartier in the 1970s by Italian designer Aldo Cipullo.
The French maison reimagined Cipullo's hardware concept, with nuts and bolts inspiring designs of Écrou de Cartier jewellery, whose latest collection includes those with freely movable nuts.
Exemplifying Cartier's freewheeling spirit to create bold and contemporary pieces, the jewellery is also on display at the Precious Garage exhibition, open 11am-7.30pm, until Sunday.
