The RSPCA has asked us to share a picture of an abandoned dog who was too sick to save

This is the heartbreaking state an abandoned pooch was found in when he was dumped in a field in Trafford.

The dog, which had collapsed, was found covered in matted fur with dried faeces in it.

He was found in a field off Manor Avenue in Sale on Monday, July 1.

The RSPCA asked the Manchester Evening News to publish photos of the pomeranian-type dog in the hope someone will be able to help trace the owner.

Vets decided that the kindest thing to do would be to put the pooch to sleep to end his suffering.

An investigation has been launched by the RSPCA to trace the owner of the dog, which was not microchipped.

RSPCA Insp Jess Arajo said: “The circumstances suggest the dog was abandoned when he showed signs of poor health and it seems he was left dying in a field.

"I find it difficult to believe the dog could have made his own way into the field in such a poor state of health.

“He was breathing but was in a collapsed state so was obviously suffering. His fur was also very matted and full of faeces which suggests his owner had neglected him.

“I am now hoping to trace the owner of the dog and am appealing for members of the public to get in touch if they recognise him.

“I am also hoping to trace the man who found the dog and took him to the PDSA as he may be able to provide me with vital information as part of my inquiry.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the RSPCA on 0300 123 8018.
