The Royal Mint is releasing sterling silver pennies to celebrate Archie's birth

The Royal Mint is set to release sterling silver UK pennies to celebrate the birth of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's first child.

To help continue the age-old tradition of crossing a baby's palm with silver The Royal Mint has produced the limited-edition souvenir coins.

Little Archie Mountbatten-Windsor arrived at 5.26am on Monday, May 6, weighing 7lb 3oz.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex broke with royal convention by making a personal decision not to use a title for their baby boy.

The Royal Mint, which is based in Llantrisant, say it's a "great way for other new parents to celebrate their unique connection to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex".

They say the coins are finished to "brilliant uncirculated standard" and will be available and shipped in mid-late June.

They are priced £15 and available from the Royal Mint website.

The Royal Mint released souvenir coins to mark the couple's wedding. They were depicted as "looking lovingly into each other's eyes".

Harry and Meghan have been enjoying the experience of being new parents at their Frogmore Cottage home near the Queen's Windsor Castle residence.

Baby Sussex slept through his first photocall and his proud mum has described him as a "dream" baby.

She said: "He has the sweetest temperament, he's really calm."

As they both laughed Harry said: "I don't know who he gets that from."
