The Royal Albert Hall unveils new £2m sound system

Acoustics experts have rigged up 465 speakers using 15,291 metres of cables to build a new sound system at the Royal Albert Hall.

Chief executive Craig Hassall said the £2 million project would leave the venue, which celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2021, “fit for another 150 years”.

Engineers worked through the nights to ensure shows were not disturbed by the work. Mr Hassall said he wanted to make sure the hall, which hosts the BBC Proms along with other events, stayed “current”.

He said: “It is not a museum, it’s a contemporary venue.”

The Royal Albert Hall remains one of the most significant concert venues and event spaces in the capital. It recently hosted Cirque du Soleil and announced a new series of Teenage Cancer Trust shows.
