The Rotunda will require partners to present Covid passes to enter hospital

The Rotunda Hospital will require Covid passes from partners of patients from December 1.

Last month, the hospital announced the lifting of most remaining restrictions on partner visits to return to pre-COVID access in a "safe way for all our patients and their partners".

Now the hospital has said a Covid pass/certificate will be required as part of their "safety screening process" at the front entrance from next month.

On October 18, NPHET recommended to government that Covid passes should required from those visiting hospitals.

However, the most recent HSE Covid-19 guidance to hospitals, dated October 21, state that "people should not be required to produce evidence of vaccination to access the hospital."

A spokesperson for the Rotunda Hospital told Dublin Live: “As we enter a new phase of living with COVID-19 The Rotunda Hospital is returning to pre-pandemic access arrangements.

"One named, nominated companion may join for appointments, labour & birth, & on inpatient wards

"Unfortunately, we cannot allow extended family members, or children to attend.

"The National Public Health Emergency Team has recently recommended that the ‘COVID Pass/Certificate’ be adopted as a requirement for visitation to healthcare settings.

"With this in mind, nominated companions visiting the Hospital will be requested to provide their COVID pass as part of our safety screening process at our front entrance, from 1 December 2021."
