Tommy Wiseau, director of the notoriously bad cult film The Room, first released in 2003, has suggested he might remake the film in 3D and release the original in China.
The original film – which has been described as “the Citizen Kane of bad movies” – has been given a new lease of life outside the midnight-movie circuit by The Disaster Artist, an adaptation of the book by Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell about the making of The Room. The Disaster Artist is to be directed by James Franco, and will star Franco, his brother Dave Franco, and Seth Rogen.
Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Wiseau (who has been described as “the Orson Welles of crap”) said he was “partially involved” with The Disaster Artist and, on the back of continuing interest in The Room, that “we’re thinking of [remaking it] in 3D. We may do it; we’ll see what happens.”
Wiseau also floated the idea of a release for the film in Asia. “We may go to China with The Room. It hasn’t come out in China or Japan yet … I don’t know, but I think they’ll have the same reaction there.”
Wiseau revealed he has a business designing underwear. “I’m very proud of it. It improves your sexuality by 40%.”
