Ashley St. Clair, best known for her drawn-out public spats with Elon Musk, has apparently fallen into financial trouble and nearly went homeless. And in case you’re wondering, yes, she does share a child with Musk. Yes, that same Musk who is the richest man on planet Earth.
Musk has had a turbulent time in the public sphere lately. At first, he had a very public and ugly falling-out with Donald Trump, which St. Clair even chimed in on, much to the delight of people who enjoy that kind of spectacle online. Then, Musk decided to go into hiding (which really just meant tweeting about things other than politics for once), but even that was disrupted when the New York Times blew the lid on his alleged drug-fueled, decadent lifestyle. Still, perhaps the most controversial thing he’s done this year is fail to find any funds in his $416 billion fortune to support the mother of his child.
But not one to be deterred by setbacks, St. Clair, 26, has decided to launch a podcast for people who apparently need to know her takes on… life? She has been refreshingly frank about her reasons for starting it. In the first episode of her podcast, Bad Advice, St. Clair told her fans, “I’m not starting this because I think my big-brain thoughts and my podcast mic are the greatest gift to humanity. I actually think I have the worst ideas, so consider everything out of my mouth a cautionary tale.”
Musk and St. Clair have long been engaged in a simmering war of words about their child, whose name was revealed by People to be Romulus. According to St. Clair’s previous statements on X, she sued Musk for sole custody because she wanted her child to have a normal upbringing — but that, she says, led Musk to “financially retaliate.” Musk, for his part, addressed the situation on X, claiming he gave St. Clair $2.5 million plus an additional $500,000 annually.
Well, seemingly now all that money has somehow run out. “Polymarket offered me $10,000 to do an ad read,” St. Clair explained of how she adapted. “So with that, the roof over my head has been brought to you by Polymarket.” She posted an announcement of her new podcast on X, but it has since mysteriously been taken down.
Elon Musk is considered part of a growing group of tech founders who self-describe as pronatalists. The most prominent believer in this movement is Telegram founder Pavel Durov, who reportedly has around 100 children. They believe their DNA is uniquely useful to humanity owing to their intelligence, and so they plan on having as many children as possible.
At this point, Musk would probably benefit from making sure St. Clair doesn’t feel forced into podcasting. If she were to divulge any more secrets about him, Tesla’s stock could very well collapse. But hey — if you needed another reminder of just how bad the economy actually is, here it is: yes, the mother of the child of the richest man on Earth is starting a podcast to avoid eviction.
