The romantic moment that left crowds cheering at Manchester Airport

This is the romantic moment a man surprised his girlfriend as she returned from a holiday to Manchester Airport.

Love was in the air at Terminal 2 when Steve, 50, got down on one knee as girlfriend Alison walked through arrivals as she returned from a girls weekend in Krakow.

Steve, from Rugby, held up a sign with 'Alison I love you' on one side and flipped it over to read 'Will you marry me?' as she approached.

The adorable moment was filmed by Alison's friends on Sunday evening, who had been told Steve was planning something special.

In the video clip Alison can be seen turning around to look at her friends in shock when she spots Steve's sign and asks "Did you know about this?"

She can then be seen wiping away tears as she walks towards Steve, who then gets out a ring.

The couple kiss before Alison nods her head and collapses onto her knees as the airport erupts into cheers.

Steve, a financial advisor, from Rugby, said he previously joked with Alison before she went away he would greet her with balloons.

He told the M.E.N: "I thought I really want to show how much I care for her. She is the most amazing person I have ever met in my life.

"We have a good fun relationship. I joked I would be waiting with balloons.

"On one side of the board it said 'Alison I love you' and on the other side it said 'Will you marry me?' At first she just saw Alison I love you."

Steve also wanted to thank Café Nero staff who stayed after their shift to film the moment and FaceTime Alison's best friend in America.

He added: "Alison had no idea at all. Everybody clapped and cheered.

"She said yes. She kept saying 'I have just realised how emotional I was, I was crying as I was watching it'. She didn't know I had the ring or anything."

The couple plan to tie the knot in June next year and will be celebrating with friends this weekend with an engagement party.
