The role Emile Smith Rowe will play at Huddersfield to fit Mikel Arteta's Arsenal blueprint

Emile Smith Rowe has competed his loan move to Huddersfield Town for the rest of the 2019/20 season.

The 19-year-old has played six times for the Arsenal first team this season and made his Premier League debut but is still in need of vital playing time.

Upon joining the Terriers, Smith Rowe has admitted that he will have a more tailor made experience which could fit well into Mikel Arteta's future plans.

When Arteta was appointed as the Gunners' head coach, everybody wondered how he would set up tactically. In all four of his games in charge so far, the Spaniard has used a 4-2-3-1.

Luckily for Smith Rowe, Danny Cowley deploys the same system at Huddersfield and has been very clear in how he wants to use him.

"I spoke to Danny (Cowley) and he told me he'd like to play me as a No.10. or as (one of the) two No.8.s which are both my preferred positions. He's put a lot of faith in me and I can't wait to get started," he told Huddersfield's official YouTube channel.

"Huddersfield have a lot of great players and the 4-2-3-1 is a good formation for me to get in the No.10. position and I can't wait to meet the players and get training."

The youngster also highlighted the amount of minutes he was getting as a key reason for the move and addressed his first ever loan spell which was at RB Leipzig last season.

"I'm very happy, I think it was important for me to get this opportunity and it's a great chance for me to play," he added.

"When you're at a big club like Arsenal and there's so many good players it's difficult to get into the team. So I'm happy and can't wait to get started.

"Leipzig was a difficult experience. I was carrying an injury for most of the time but there were great players there, the staff were great and the fans were also very good so it was a great experience for me. I learnt so much over there, a whole different culture and a language so overall it was a good experience."

Although Smith Rowe was injured for most of his time at Leipzig, he was still able to sample what it was like to play German football, training with the squad and making three substitute appearances.

In the case of , Mikel Arteta felt that the player was in a comfort zone with the Under-23s and needed to prove himself. With Smith Rowe already proving he can handle senior football in the Europa League group stage, this loan spell is coming at the perfect time.

"They (Leipzig) like to press a lot so I learnt so much off the ball. The manager tried to put into our heads (to) press a lot high up the pitch (with) counter attacking football which is really important," the 19-year-old added.

"Moving away is always going to be difficult but it's important when you're a footballer to step out of your comfort zone so yeah, I'm happy to be here.

"Arsenal is a club that like to show belief in their youngsters. There's a lot of young players getting opportunities and I'm grateful but for me it's about getting consistent minutes. That was the main goal."

Staying in England for this loan spell, it isn't just his knowledge of the language that will help Smith Rowe settle, but also the players he already knows at the club.

"I know Jaden Brown, he's been at Tottenham and we used to have a lot of rivalries and Karlan Grant as well. I'm sure the lads will welcome me," he said.

"It will help me get very comfortable (knowing those players). When I'm more comfortable I'll come out of my shell a bit more. I'd like to link up with all of the players which I think is good for me and the team so I can't wait to meet the players."

When playing for the Under-23s, Smith Rowe has truly been able to show what he can do from a central position. Often, his chances in the first team have come in the wide areas but in the middle of the pitch he has been able to drive upfield with his.

He did this twice before claiming two assists vs Blackburn Rovers Under-23s in December and has told Huddersfield fans to expect more of the same.

"I like to drive with the ball, create chances, score goals for the team. I like linking up as well, all the time. So creating and scoring, running with the ball," the midfielder said.

"I expect it to be very physical, there's a lot of strong teams in the league. I've got to get used to it quickly, there's a lot of games so I'm excited and I know it's going to be hard and a big challenge
