The prices for Xbox's handheld console, the ROG Xbox Ally, might have just leaked prematurely online through the ASUS store, and the prices of the console aren't doing it any favors.
As first discovered by 3DJuegos, two versions of the ROG have been found so far, with a cheaper option costing what appears to be 599 Euros, and the more expensive version costing 899 Euros. We should preface that any supposed leaks should be taken with a pinch of salt until proven correct, but the prices are pretty steep when compared to its competition.
If we change the Euros into US Dollars, then the prices exchange currently to $700 for the base model and $1050 for the more expensive model, though we don't expect these to be the official prices should the consoles come to the US, until the US Government's tariffs raise prices. And even if we knock a hundred dollars off each one, it still would make it one of the most expensive handheld gaming devices on the market.
For example, the Switch 2 launched at $449.99 in the US for just the system, and the Steam Deck goes for anywhere from $400 to $650 US Dollars for different versions, which would still be significantly less than what both Xbox and Asus are asking for. You could argue that the ROG Xbox Ally would have the benefit of playing both Steam and Xbox games, but it's still a ghastly amount for a gimmick of a device.
As you might imagine, places like Reddit have been memeing on this supposed price leak, claiming the console is dead upon arrival. But again, we have to preface that this leak is not in any way official, and could be a mistake on Asus's part, or not real at all. You can say that's copium, but we have to remind everyone not to believe everything they read on the internet before it is officially revealed.
So, for now, let's hope for the best, as if these prices are even slightly close to the actual retail price, I don't see this handheld console doing well in the long run.
