The Rock pays heartfelt tribute to late Scottish wrestler Adrian 'Lionheart' McCallum

The Rock has paid tribute to tragic wrestler Adrian McCallum who died earlier this week.

The American acting superstar, real name Dwayne Johnson, made his name as a WWE brawler and posted a heartfelt message on social media about the late 36-year-old, who was known as 'Lionheart'.

McCallum passed away on Wednesday, having committed suicide shortly after posting a final poignant tweet about "living for the last time".

Scotland's wrestling community has been united in grief and McCallum's death has not gone noticed across the pond either.

Sharing a picture of McCallum next to his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, The Rock said: "So sorry to hear the news of Adrian McCallum’s passing. He was a big wrestling star in the UK. Loved and respected.

"Never had the opportunity to shake this man’s hand but sending his family, friends & UK wrestling community love, support & strength."

Fellow Scot Drew McIntyre, who was a long-time friend, said: "Sleep well my brother. I'll see you down the line."

And WWE megastar Paige also paid tribute. She said: "Breaks my heart. RIP my friend. You were always so wonderful to me and I’ll be forever grateful that I knew you."

The popular wrestler was the Heavyweight champion of Glasgow-based Insane Championship Wrestling and was hailed by those who knew him as a 'central figure of the golden generation of Scottish wrestlers' who had a 'lion's heart inside and outside the ring'.

Adrian was the owner of Ayrshire-based Pro Wrestling Elite and coached at Glasgow Pro Wrestling Asylum (GPWA).

A GoFundMe page set up to contribute towards the funeral costs has smashed £13,500 in less than 24 hours as fans, friends and colleagues have rallied after the devastating news of his death on Wednesday.
