The roads in Wales that your council will grit and those they don’t

The first snow of the winter has fallen this week, causing disruption and closed roads in parts of the country.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for snow, which began falling on Wednesday night across a wide area from Carmarthenshire to Monmouthshire. The snow left a road at Seven Sisters, near Neath, closed after several cars got stuck overnight and a road between Abercrave and Coelbren in Powys was also closed because of the conditions.

There were also hazardous driving conditions on the A465 Heads of the Valleys road, which was shut for several hours after a three-vehicle accident.

In the Met Office's long range forecast, it says heavy rain will spread eastwards across Wales early next week, with the possibility of some transient hill snow. There is also a risk strong winds and coastal gales.

During snow, if you must drive, it is best to keep to gritted roads but it can be hard to know which routes are treated. Gritting is done by local councils, and we've listed all 22 of Wales' local authorities here.

Every council has a different map of the routes, many of which are not easy to make out when you zoom out. We have therefore not included pictures for all areas and have instead put a link to where you can see it on their website.
