‘The road to Tirana is over’ - Tottenham fans have mixed feelings over major UEFA decision

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been left conflicted at UEFA’S decision to end their run in the Europa Conference League.

The European governing body released a statement on Monday morning stating that Spurs have forfeited their postponed clash with Rennes, with the original game having been cancelled due to an outbreak of Covid.

Forfeiting the game means that Spurs have been handed an automatic 3-0 loss and as a result finish third in their group behind the French outfit and Vitesse Arnhem.

The statement read: "The Chairman of the UEFA Appeals Body took the following decision: To declare the 2021/22 UEFA Europa Conference League group stage match between Tottenham Hotspur FC and Stade Rennais FC, that was initially scheduled to be played on 9 December 2021, as forfeited by Tottenham Hotspur FC, who is therefore deemed to have lost the match 0-3 in accordance with Annex J.3.1 to the Regulations of the UEFA Europa Conference League (2021/22 Season)."

Tottenham are understood to be considering a response to the decision but supporters already appear to have accepted that the club will not be playing in Europe after the new year.

Here are just a selection of their mixed responses:

Whilst Spurs’ European hopes have been ended for the current campaign, they are firmly in the race to regain their place back in a competition of some form or the other next term.

Antonio Conte’s men currently sit seventh in the Premier League table and are six points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, albeit with three matches in hand.
