The Sikh community in Cardiff is hosting a celebration over the weekend, culminating in a parade through the city centre.
On Sunday, September 1 , there will be a parade from the Riverside area of the city finishing at Cardiff Castle.
There are a few reasons for the celebration, which is called Nagar Kirtan. The Sikh community is celebrating 550 years since the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism and the first of the 10 Sikh Gurus.
Another reason for celebration is the 65th anniversary of Sikhs in Cardiff, along with the 30th anniversary of Sri Dasmais Singh Sabha Gurdwara - the Sikh temple on Tudor Street, Riverside.
The parade will finish with food at the castle.
With the parade, will come a number of road closures.
There will be rolling road closure between noon and 1pm to facilitate the parade.
The closures will run with the parade, as it moves along the route.
The route is as follows:
- Tudor Street throughout its length
- Ninian Park Road from its junction with Tudor Street to its junction with Kitchener Road
- Kitchener Road throughout its length
- Wellington Street from its junction with Kitchener Road to its junction with Cowbridge Road East
- Cowbridge Road East from its junction with Wellington Street to its junction with Castle Street
- Castle Street throughout its length, finishing at Cardiff Castle.
