The risk Jose Mourinho must consider as Tottenham's summer transfer priorities are assessed

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest for Tuesday, June 2.

The suspension risk Jose Mourinho must consider ahead of Premier League return

Tottenham Hotspur’s return to the Premier League is vital in their hopes of securing Champions League football for next season.

Due to Manchester City’s potential ban from UEFA competition next season, a fifth-place finish could be enough to qualify for the Champions League, and Spurs would move within a point of Manchester United in fifth if they can return to action by beating them on home soil.

Unlike when the fixture was originally scheduled in early March, Jose Mourinho has few injury concerns for the clash with his former club, but he must consider Harry Winks’ disciplinary tight-rope.

Alasdair Gold's Facebook Live Tottenham Q&A

The 24-year-old midfielder is the only Spurs player that could potentially face a two-match ban by reaching the threshold of ten yellow cards before the Gameweek 32 amnesty, which he’d make if he sits out the United clash or can make it through without receiving a booking.

Here’s Spurs’ disciplinary situation in full detail.

The issue Ryan Sessegnon faces after the signing of Steven Bergwijn

England Under-21 international Ryan Sessegnon has endured a frustrating debut season at Tottenham after securing a £30m move from Fulham last summer.

The 20-year-old wide man, who can play either as a full-back or winger, first emerged at Craven Cottage shortly after his 16th birthday and had already racked up over 100 senior appearances before his move to Spurs.

But a hamstring injury delayed his debut until November, and he’s since struggled to get a consistent run-out, making just four Premier League starts this season.

The January signing of Steven Bergwijn has also given him further competition when it comes to the wing, meaning he might have to fully embrace a full-back role going forward.

He spoke recently about his preferred position, suggesting he’d like to play as a wing-back in a 3-5-2 formation.

Here’s Rob Guest’s full look at Sessegnon’s likely position going forward at Spurs.

Jose Mourinho’s transfer priorities ahead of next season

June would ordinarily signal the end of the club football season and thoughts turning to squad-building for the following season.

We’d also have Euro 2020 imminently taking place across the continent, but that’s of course been cancelled and with nine Premier League matches yet to play, the natural order of things has dramatically changed with unprecedented disruption to life as normal.

But behind the scenes, the club will surely have one eye on strengthening next season in order to give Jose Mourinho a squad built in his image.

We’ve taken an in-depth look, going through the entire squad position-by-position, to predict where Spurs will look for additions when the transfer window does eventually open.
