The rising cost of Brexit as 4 out of 5 Brits face money worries in 2021

The rising cost of living and Brexit are the two areas of most financial concern to Brits, according to a new study.

Conducted by GoCompare, a survey of over 2,000 people found that 40% of people are bracing themselves for a difficult year ahead.

17% described themselves as 'seriously concerned' 6% admitted they will have to lean on the help of friends and family.

While a proportion of individuals already enter the year in credit card or other unsecured debt, maintaining rent payments or falling into mortgage arrears was among the more alarming areas of concern.

With the economy delicately poised over a potential precipice, nearly a quarter are worried about either losing their job or being unable to find a sufficient amount of work.

Many also pointed to not having enough by way of savings, those that did pointed to the adverse effect cause by falling interest rates.

GoCompare Money's Sally Jacques said: "The vaccination programme will help us get back into some semblance of normality."

"But, without doubt, 2021 will be a tough year for many people as the financial fallout of the pandemic continues to be felt."

GoCompare point to figures of nearly £1,000 per year that their customers have saved when shopping around for their car insurance, home insurance and their gas and electricity bills.
