The Rise of Skywalker: Star Wars actor Anthony Daniels appears to confirm fate of character in new book

Star Wars actor Anthony Daniels appears to have confirmed the fate of his character C-3PO in forthcoming film The Rise of Skywalker

Daniels wrote about his time portraying the gold droid in his new autobiography, I Am C-3PO, which he has voiced since the early Seventies.

Concern among fans was sparked after the final trailer was released for the new movie, where the character is pictured saying he wants “one last look” at his friends, including Poe, Rey, Finn, BB-8 and new character Zorri Bliss.

Many took this to mean they would be saying an emotional goodbye at some point during the film, with one commenting: “He’s gonna be used as a detonator for some huge bomb, isn’t he?”

However, Radio Times reports that Daniels writes in his book: “He’s too good of a character, too big of a character to die with me. Disney paid a lot of money for him! You know what I mean? They’ve got to get their money back somehow.”

While it cannot be confirmed, Daniels’ comments seem to suggest he believes C-3PO will live on even if he decides to step down from the role.

The Rise of Skywalker is scheduled for release in the UK on 19 December 2019.
