The ridiculous reason why this Swansea street was left with two identical signs one behind the other

A Swansea street left residents and drivers thinking that they must be seeing double.

Locals on Llangyfelach Street, in the Hafod area, came home one day to find their street had sprouted two almost identical road name signs, one behind the other.

Now Swansea council has explained why. A spokesman explained that the hedged area where the signs were located was "prone to becoming very overgrown".

This resulted in the original sign becoming hidden in the greenery.

Everyone thought the sign had been taken, so another, costing around £60, was installed in almost exactly the same place during the summer.

Then, last month, the council's parks team tackled the overgrowth and discovered the first sign was still there, and they had ended up with two, one behind the other.

Many people who spotted the mistake took to social media to express their confusion, with some commenting: "So good, they named it twice."

Another person said: "One is just a spare, one just in case." While one stated: "I looked at this the other day and thought 'what's that all about?'".

Someone else said simply: "What a complete waste of money!"

These signs give an important message:

Signs urging drivers to turn off their engines have appeared on Swansea's busiest road

Responding to this, a spokesman for Swansea Council said: "The area is prone to becoming very overgrown with thick vegetation and this resulted in the original sign becoming hidden from view.

"Following reports from the public we installed a new sign in the summer. Recent work to cut back the overgrowth has now uncovered the original street sign. We will relocate one of the signs to the other side of the road to assist motorists."
