The ridiculous parking situation at a Swansea primary school

Parents are parking on pavements outside a Swansea Primary School, causing a potential danger to children.

The vehicles are being left in rows outside YGG Tirdeunaw in the north of Swansea , particularly for the afternoon school run.

And by blocking the pathways, it means children are at risk by having to step out into the road with passing traffic.

The issue is one that has been escalating, according to one parent.

She said: “Cars parking on the road make it really dangerous to try and cross the road to get to Tirdeunaw school.

“There is no safety for children at all.

“It is not so bad in the morning as the school is open from 8.10am until the doors close at 8.50am, so it’s a staggered arrival.

“But it’s not as bad as 3pm at the end of the school day.

“Cars start arriving by 2.50pm.

“There are a lot more cars parked up on pavement when I go back back after collecting my child. It’s just so dangerous”.

South Wales Police say they are working with school to help educate parents of the dangers of leaving the cars on the pavement.

A spokesman added: “Our neighbourhood policing team are continuing to work closely with the school and are regularly in the area to help educate parents” .

Parking enforcement is carried out by Swansea Council.

A spokesman for the authority said: "We would urge parents to park responsibly when visiting the school.

"Our parking enforcement team will continue to patrol the route and issue penalty charge notices to those parking in restricted areas".
