"The return of the God" - Zlatan Ibrahimovic makes shock Sweden U-turn

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has made a stunning return to the Sweden squad almost five years after announcing his international retirement.

The 39-year-old played his last game for his country in Euro 2016, seemingly bowing out on 116 caps for the nation.

But rumours recently suggested that Sweden manager Janne Andersson had flown to Milan to meet with Ibrahimovic to attempt to persuade him to pull on the yellow jersey again.

And he has sensationally been included in their squad for the upcoming World Cup 2022 qualifying games against Georgia and Kosovo, along with their friendly against Estonia.

It now appears almost certain Ibrahimovic will be taking part in this summer's delayed European Championships.

And he took to social media in the wake of the latest squad announcement, posting a picture of himself playing for Sweden along with the caption: "The return of the God."

Speaking following the announcement, Andersson said of Ibrahimovic's inclusion: "First and foremost, he is a very good football player, the best we have had in Sweden.

"It is, of course, very fun that he wants to come back. In addition to what he can contribute on the pitch, he has incredible experience and can contribute it to other players in the team."

Despite his advancing age, Ibrahimovic has enjoyed a superb season for AC Milan, scoring 14 goals in 14 Serie A appearances.

And he clearly feels he is still capable of doing the business at international level, and will be desperate to inspire his country to the latter stages of the Euros in what will surely be his swansong.

He has scored 62 goals in his 116 appearances for Sweden, with their best tournament performance with Ibrahimovic coming in Euro 2004, when they made it to the quarter-finals before being knocked out by the Netherlands.
