A rescue dog called Aurora cemented its place in a new family by being a part of her owner's sweet marriage proposal.
Craig Chalmers popped the question to Amy Salter while on a beach during their holiday in Tresaith. Craig arranged a themed proposal in a nod to his and Amy’s favourite film Up by Disney with coloured balloons.
However, the moment would not be complete without their new faithful pet and when the couple, both 27, returned to their accommodation, Amy’s mother, who was staying with them, opened the door and out ran Aurora with her new neckerchief.
The neckerchief read “My humans are getting married!”
Amy said, “My mother opened the door and Aurora came running out to us, jumping all over us with her bandana on.”
As a rescue dog, the five-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross is shy around most people, but Amy hopes she will be able to build her confidence before the wedding.
She said, “We’d love her to carry the rings in the wedding. We’re planning the wedding for 2023 so there is time to work on her confidence around people.”
Amy and Craig adopted Aurora from Cardiff Dogs Home last December, and Aurora has come out of her shell since finding her forever home.
Amy explained that she saw a picture of Aurora and fell in love with her because of her eyes and ears. Her ears had even earnt her the nickname “piglet” at the Dogs Home.
It took some work to get her to where she is today. When Cardiff Dogs Home first took her in, she weighed an unhealthy nine kilograms, and is now up to 20.
Amy said, “Aurora wouldn’t even go in the car without shaking and feeling terrified. For the first two hours of having her she’d run upstairs when we came downstairs. She was petrified.”
The couple don’t know what happened before she was rescued, but the extent of her fear of humans speaks for itself.
However, with the progress Aurora has made so far, here’s hoping she’ll be up to carrying the rings at Amy and Craig’s wedding.
