The remarkable reception the Wales rugby team got as hundreds of fans fill their hotel to sing the anthem

There was a heroes welcome for the Wales team as they arrived back at their hotel today following the dramatic quarter-final victory over France in Oita.

The players and management were greeted by a throng of Welsh fans as they got back to their Buppuwan base after the 20-19 win, which has set up a quarter-final clash with South Africa.

They were cheered and applauded as they got off the team bus and made the way through reception and up the stairs at the team hotel.

And they were then treated to an impromptu rendition of Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau as the fans belted out the Welsh national anthem from the lobby below them.

It provided confirmation, if any were needed, of the level of support for them out in Japan, both from travelling fans and the locals.

That backing will be all the more important this week with a challenging last four encounter with the powerful Springboks coming up in Yokohama next Sunday.
